Lens - Tibetan Image Search, by Peace & Tech · Last updated: July 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Lens - Tibetan Image Search ("the app," "we," "us") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We built this app to do one thing — tell you the Tibetan name of what your camera sees — and we collect only what is needed to make that work.
What we collect
- Account identifier. When you sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymous account identifier (and, only if you choose to share it, your email address). We use it to keep track of your subscription plan and usage.
- Usage counts. We keep a count of how many identifications you make, so we can enforce the daily limits of your subscription plan. We store the count, your plan tier, and the date — not the content of your photos.
- Photos you identify. The region of the photo you frame is sent to our server and then to Google's Gemini API, solely to recognize and name the object. Camera and photo-library access happen only when you choose to take or pick a photo. We do not store your photos on our servers, and we never access your photo library beyond the pictures you explicitly pick.
- History. Your identification history — photos and names — is stored locally on your device only. Deleting entries in the app, or deleting the app, deletes them. We cannot see your history.
What we do NOT collect
- No advertising identifiers, no tracking across apps, no analytics profiles.
- No contacts, location, or browsing data — and no access to photos except the ones you explicitly choose to identify.
- We never sell your data. There are no ads in the app.
Third-party services
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, and payment processing for subscriptions. We never see your payment details.
- Google Firebase — authentication and our usage database. Firebase privacy
- Google Gemini API — processes the photo regions you submit, solely to recognize the object and return its names. Gemini API terms
Data retention and deletion
Your account identifier and usage counts are kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account record and usage data from our servers. Identification history lives only on your device and is removed when you delete entries or the app.
Children
The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only personal data involved is the Sign in with Apple account identifier described above.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Server access is restricted to authenticated requests, and quota records are keyed to your account identifier only.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
